Punjab Institue of Cardiology is a unique 284 bedded tertiary care hospital for treatment of cardiac diseases. It was established in response to the acute deficiency felt for comprehensive care of cardiac patients. Originally named as "CARDIAC CENTRE" its foundation stone was laid by Lt. General Ghulam Jilani Khan (Late), the then Governor of Punjab on 10.11.1984. It was inaugurated by Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the then Chief Minister of Punjab on 15.10.1988. In patient was commisioned on 5.10.1990. The first open heart surgery was performed on 9.10.1990.
